CW Protocol

The City of Lights CW net is at 28.150 MHz. The net is informal and intended to let anyone with even minimal skills enjoy a little CW.  Depending on the check-ins, speeds might run from 8 to 20 WPM.  If you have trouble copying the Net Control’s (NC) speed, just send QRS and he or she will slow down.  Although this is a 10-10 net, you don’t have to be a member of 10-10 or the City of Lights to check in.  If you don’t have a 10-10 number, just send “NR 0.”

The NC (Dean, KC9EOQ) will typically start the net with:

Asks if the frequency is in use: QRL
Then: This is (NC call sign) net control for the City of Lights net. The COL is a chapter of 10-10 International. 10-10 is a worldwide organization that promotes the use of the ten-meter amateur radio band so as to not lose the band for other uses. This net meets every Monday evening at 8:00 pm local time. This is COL net number ####.

To check-in to the COL net please send your full call sign once and then stand-by. Once a list of check-ins has been established, net control will confirm the list and ask for any other check-ins.

Once the list has been established net control will ask each participant to complete their check-in as follows:

Name
QTH (State, Province or Country)
10-10 Number If the check-in does not have a 10-10 number, then just sign “no number.”

Once everyone has completed their check-ins, Net Control then will start with the first check-in to see if they have anything to share with the group. Once we are at the end of the list, net control will ask if there is anyone else who wishes to check in. If there is no response, then the net will end.

Net Control will thank all those who checked in and then encourage check-ins to switch to SSB on 28.720MHz USB for the SSB net at 8:30 pm local time.
